CAMP MELCHOR F. DELA CRUZ, Isabela – A New People’s Army arms cache was discovered in Barangay Masi, Zinundungan Valley, Rizal, Cagayan on Valentine’s Day.

Major Gen. Audrey L. Pasia, 5th Infantry Division chief, said the 17th Infantry Battalion and the police unearthed the weapons stash through the help of communist rebels who surrendered to the government.
Troops found a Daewoo K3 rifle, two M-16 Armalite rifle with M203 grenade launcher, three M-16 Colt Armalite rifle, three M-16 Elisco Armalite rifle, 14 long magazines for M-16 rifle, four short magazine assembly for M-16 rifle, one caliber .45 Armscor pistol with one magazine assembly and 32 bullets, and one improvised explosive device.
The Cagayan Police Provincial Office led by Police Col. Julio Gorospe and the 17th Infantry Battalion led by Lt. Col. Oliver C. Logan presented the arms cache to Gov. Manuel Mamba at the provincial capitol in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Logan said NPA rebels left the firearms in the area before they surrendered to the government in 2021 and 2022.
Pasia reiterated his call to remaining members of the NPA Cagayan Provincial Committee to surrender and live a peaceful life.
