Do senators intend to embarrass President Marcos by not acting expeditiously on their pro-Charter change (Cha-cha) measure, Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No.6?
Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong sought a categorical response to this question on Friday, Feb. 16, as he said that time was running out on the Senate's initial deadline for the passage of the measure.
"Masyado na pong bumababa ang ating oras para maipasa ang RBH No.6 sa itinakdang deadline ng Senado na Marso ngayong taon," Adiong said.
(Time is running out on the Senate's own deadline for the passage of RBH No.6, which is March this year.)
"Is the Senate willing to embarrass President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. with its hard-headed approach on constitutional revision? Sagutin na lang nila ito para magkaalaman na, tama na ang mapanakit at matutulis na pahayag," said the "Young Guns" bloc member.
(Please just answer this so that we'll know what everybody's cards are, and enough of these hurtful and pointed tirades.)
Adiong advised the senators to focus all their time and effort in passing RBH No.6 instead of holding more "pointless" hearings on the People's Initiative (PI). The measure will facilitate economic Cha-cha as endorsed by President Marcos himself.
"Naka-tatlong hearing na ang Senado dito pero hanggang ngayon, wala pa ring testigo na nagsasabing binayaran sila kapalit ng kanilang pirma. Mismong mga testigo ng mga senador ang umamin na wala silang natanggap na suhol sa prosesong ito," Adiong said.
(The Senate has held three hearings so far but up to now, none of the witnesses have said that they were paid in exchange for their signatures. Even the witnesses presented by the senators denied that the process involved bribes.)
The Midnanaoan noted that the senator even used scare tactics on the witnesses, but to no avail.
Marcos agrees with the House of Representatives' stance that carrying out economic Cha-cha will attract more foreign direct investments to the Philippines.
