“Thunder Kid” expects to move into the strawweight MMA elite if he beats the tough and scrappy Danial “Mini T” Williams at ONE Fight Night 19: Haggerty vs. Lobo inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, this Saturday, Feb. 17.
Adiwang clarified that he won’t be satisfied with just getting into the top five, but he knows it’s the next step toward his ultimate goal – a ONE Strawweight MMA World Title shot.
“It’s very important for me to win this fight. I want to get back in the rankings of the strawweight division and fight for the World Title. That’s the dream here,” he said.
There’s also the issue of Adiwang looking to prove not only to his fans, but to himself, that he can win in fights with major implications.
In the past, the 30-year-old came up short twice the moment he neared contendership – first in 2020 when he lost a split-decision to Hiroba Minowa, and then in 2022 when he suffered the first back-to-back losses of his career when he got finished by Jarred Brooks and injured against Jeremy Miado.
Adiwang feels like such setbacks could frame him as someone who always falls short, and that’s something he plans to erase this Saturday.
“I want to show and prove that the ‘Thunder Kid’ is for real. It’s not just hype, it’s for real. I’m for real,” he said.
“I want to fight the best of the best in this division, and not just face them but beat them. That’s what I want to accomplish in this fight.”
And this Saturday he promises to keep his exciting style, all while getting that all-important victory against the tough Williams.
“My prediction? It’s going to be explosive. It’s going to be an entertaining fight, and I’ll do my best to get the victory,” he said.
