Two fishermen have been rescued after their motorbanca encountered engine trouble while they were fishing off Rizal, Palawan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Friday, Feb. 16.
Regie Nalang and Reymond Talaver were stranded at sea for a day before they were rescued by personnel of Coast Guard Station Western Palawan and Bantay Dagat Rizal in the vicinity waters off Sitio Ariringon in Brgy. Iraan last Feb. 14.
According to PCG, the two fishermen were on their way to the adjacent Brgy. Taburi on Feb. 13 when the engine of their boat suddenly malfunctioned.
The two fishermen sought help from the PCG which triggered search and rescue (SAR) operation.
After hours of search, the responders finally found the distressed motorbanca and the fishermen onboard.
"Upon arrival, the SAR team [provided] them water and food. Fortunately, both fishermen were all in good physical condition," the PCG said.
The SAR team also towed the distressed boat to the nearest shoreline in Brgy. Iraan to avoid possible maritime accident.
The PCG advised local fishermen in the area to ensure that their boats are properly conditioned before they conduct fishing activities to ensure their safety.
