A murder case has been filed against a man who confessed to killing his live-in partner out of jealousy in Antipolo City on Feb. 12, police said.
Antipolo Police chief Lt. Col. Ryan Manongdo told the Manila Bulletin that a murder complaint was filed against the suspect, Roceller Santos Lanon, 31, a motorcycle taxi rider and a resident of Barangay San Isidro, Antipolo City.
The filing of the criminal case against Lanon came after he admitted killing Janiclear Eustaquio Cahilig, a 31-year-old marketing assistant of a motorcycle trading firm.
Cahilig’s body was found by a passerby on a grassy portion of Quarry Road in Binangonan on Feb. 13.
Col. Manongdo said the suspect’s statement was executed in front of a lawyer a day after Cahilig’s body was discovered.
Police said based on the victim’s statement, the killing was done in the couple’s house in Antipolo at around 4 p.m. on Feb. 12, following their heated argument.
The couple’s argument stemmed from the woman's insistence to end their relationship.
The suspect opposed the breakup and, at the peak of their quarrel, he hit his partner with an empty soft drinks bottle that knocked her down.
The suspect claimed that out of rage, he strangled her to death with his bare hands, police said.
The suspect then brought the victim into his car, drove to Binangonan at past 11 p.m. on Feb. 12, and dumped her body on a dark portion of the road.
Binangonan Police chief Lt. Col. Evangeline Santos said police investigators took custody of the suspect prior to his confession as he was acting suspiciously during the first stage of the investigation.
The Antipolo Police, which only took over the case from the Binangonan Police, said they have gathered other material evidence against the suspect.
The suspect was still in the custodial facility of the Antipolo Police Station as of this writing.
The victim has two kids -- a 10-year-old boy and a five-year old girl -- who are both in the custody of the victim’s siblings.
