DOST tells researchers: Submit proposals for sustainability, economic dev't
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) encouraged researchers from different universities and research institutions to submit research proposals under the criteria of the four pillars of research and development including wealth creation, wealth protection, human wealth-being, and sustainability.

In an interview with Teleradyo Serbisyo on Thursday, Feb. 15, DOST Undersecretary Leah Buendia said the department is now in its fifth year of conducting the DOST Call Conference, which was done across the country to collaborate with research enthusiasts and professionals.
"Nagpo-pondo kami ng lahat ng research and development at project sa mga sektor na priority at sumusuporta sa mga layunin na aligned sa proyekto ng mga socio-economic agenda ng kasalukuyang administrasyon (We have been funding research and development and projects in prioritized sectors that supports the goals aligned with the socio-economic agenda of the current administration)," Buendia said.
She added that from year 2015 to 2022, funds allocated for research and development projects amounted to P11.5 billion.
"Umiikot kami sa buong bansa para sabihin na available ang pondong ito at para hikayatin ang ibang researchers na magsubmit ng proposal (We go across different areas in the country to inform them that this fund is available and to encourage them to submit research proposals)," she said.
Some projects that were funded by DOST include the processing of cacao bean shell waste into other "functional" food products and ingredients; the processing of egg whites from cracked eggs into egg white powder that can be used in bakeries for longer shelf life; and researches for risk reduction management resulting to the creation of GeoRisk PH and HazardHunter PH among other initiatives.
Buendia also invited veteran and young researchers to submit their research proposals to various councils like the National Research Council of the Philippines, the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), and Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) from March 1 to March 15.
