Senator Francis Tolentino commended various local government units (LGUs) for their exemplary implementation of nutrition policies and programs in their respective constituencies, which earned them recognition from the National Nutrition Council (NNC) as "nutrition champions".
During where Tolentino served as a guest of honor, he remarked: "This is a fulfillment of our country's commitment to one of the Universal Declarations of Human Rights— the right to adequate food," Tolentino said during the 2023 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremonies held Monday, Feb. 12.
Tolentino was the guest of honor during the event.
"This would not have happened without the collaboration, the unity, and the sacrifice and patience of not just the Barangay Nutrition Scholars, but also the community itself together with the help of the LGU," he added.
Tolentino, a hall of famer for Green Banner Seal of Compliance during his time as mayor of Tagaytay City, also reminded the LGUs to continue putting health and nutrition as a topmost concern.
"The awardees should remain as a continuing reminder for the entire nation that health and nutrition should be the topmost concern of all LGUs nationwide," the lawmaker stressed.
Moreover, the senator said that NNC's unwavering efforts are a testament to the government's united vision of providing good nutrition to all Filipinos.
"Lahat ng naririto ay kumakatawan at sumasalamin sa ating pananaw, panahon pa ni Carlos P. Romulo na lahat ng batang Pilipino ay magkaroon ng tamang nutrisyon (Everyone here embodies and mirrors our view, it was during the time of Carlos P. Romulo that all young Filipinos were entitled to proper nutrition)," Tolentino further stated.
