Senator Imee Marcos was among the senators who gave their tacit approval to the P26.7-billion Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita (AKAP) program.
This was learned Wednesday, Feb. 14 after Senior Deputy Speaker Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr. showed the lady senator's signature on the Bicameral Conference Committee report on the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), where AKAP had been lodged.
"Para malinawan lang po natin, na Senator Imee, ito po oh, nakabilog pangalan niya na pumirma po siya sa bicam report. Sana po tinignan niya ito. This is P26.7 billion. Binilugan ko po yung pangalan niya na pumirma," Gonzales said during a press briefing where he held up in front of television cameras the paper that was signed by the senator.
(This is for clarity, Senator Imee, here, her name has been encircled on the bicam report. I wished she looked at this. I encircled her signature.)
"Ako ayun po, nakapirma po ako...Lahat ng miyembro po ng bicam conference nakapirma po dito," added the House leader.
(There is my signature, I also signed...every member of the bicam conference signed this.)

Senator Marcos had earlier assailed the AKAP, the funds of which she claimed were being funneled to the Charter change (Cha-cha) effort, particularly the People’s Initiative (PI).
“AKAP is part of the 2024 national budget. The Senate gave its stamp of approval on AKAP when it passed the then-proposed P5.768-trillion outlay for this year in plenary last Nov. 28,” Gonzales said.
He said based on media reports, the plenary vote was 21 “yes” votes with one abstention and zero negative votes.
He noted that the Senate later ratified the bicam report on the budget signed by committee members led by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Senator Juan Edgardo Angara and his House Appropriations Committee Chairman Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.
“It would be absurd now for senators to be questioning the AKAP and other assistance funds included in the national budget and administered by the Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD) because they approved it,” Gonzales underscored.
“They are estopped from speaking against or criticizing what they have approved, unless they tell us now that [they] voted ‘yes’ without reading the budget or at least the conference committee report, which is a summary of the outlay,” he said.
