Motorists endure heavy traffic in Dangwa and Quiapo due to Valentine, Ash Wednesday rush
Motorists endured slow-moving traffic along Dangwa and Quiapo in Manila due to Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday rush.
Slow-moving traffic was observed from Lacson Avenue corner España Boulevard to Maria Clara and Dimasalang Streets on Monday morning, Feb. 14.
Some drivers complained as motorists stopped by stalls in Dangwa to buy flowers for their loved ones.
Many delivery riders and bulk buyers were also seen on the sidewalks with their loads of flowers.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that heavy traffic is expected in these areas until the end of the week.

Meanwhile, crowds in Quiapo are anticipated to multiply throughout the day as Ash Wednesday falls on the same date as Valentine's Day.
According to vendors in Quiapo, people started to flock to the church as early as 4 a.m. to get the ash cross on their foreheads.

Several flower vendors set up their stalls in Plaza Miranda.
Traffic enforcers were dispatched to Quiapo Church and Quezon Boulevard to manage the traffic in the area.
Public utility vehicles were also reminded to load and unload their passengers in the designated areas to reduce the traffic.
Authorities urged motorists to avoid the congested areas in Manila by taking alternative routes.
