VP Duterte plans to collaborate with Malaysian gov't to boost PH education
Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte, the newly installed president of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), is planning to establish a collaborative partnership with the Malaysian government in the field of education.

In an interview on Feb. 12 during her visit to Malaysia, she highlighted these areas as her main focus during her SEAMEO leadership.
"Our presidency in SEAMEO, we hope to work with the Malaysian government concerning teacher education and learners' protection and well-being. These are our agendas for them," she said in a mix of Filipino and English.
Even though she did not yet detail the department's objectives, she still viewed this collaboration as crucial to achieving these goals by adding this is also “part of our flagship projects as president of SEAMEO for the year 2023 to 2024."
Duterte officially assumed the council president role on Feb. 9, where she met with Minister Chan Chun Sing of the Ministry of Education of Singapore and unveiled her plans for education for the Department of Education.
She also vowed to tackle education challenges head-on, implementing programs to address learning losses from the pandemic.
The education secretary will hold this position from 2023 to 2025.
