Thanya Dela Cruz came in at 26th place out of 53 participants in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke after timing 1 minute and 9.12 seconds -- a second below her personal best and own national record of 1:08.64 she set in the UAAP competitions in 2022.
Only the Top 16 advanced to the semifinals with China’s Tang Qianting leading the qualifiers with a time of 1:06.16.
Jerard Jacinto also stumbled in the men’s 100m backstroke, clocking 57.18sec to finish 35th in the 53-player field.
His time was two seconds slower than his own PH mark of 55.83sec he posted at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last year and four seconds slower than top qualifier Pieter Coetze of South Africa, who registered 53.32sec.
Teia Salvino was also unsuccessful to make a splash in the women’s 100m back, finishing at 28th with a time of 1:02.81 behind top qualifier Claire Curzan of the United States (59.72sec).
It was also a second slower than her own PH record of 1:01.64 she made at the Cambodia SEAG.
Salvino competes in the women’s 200m freestyle at presstime as other PH bets return to action on Thursday, Feb. 15, in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay and the women’s 100m free.
