Swedish-Chinese auto brand, Lynk & Co, coming to PH
Joining Chery and Foton in UAAGI's portfolio
By Inigo Roces

The arrival of new brands in the country shows no signs of slowing down as yet another brand is slated to enter the country. That brand is Lynk & Co., a Chinese–Swedish automobile brand co-owned by Geely Automobile Holdings and Volvo Cars. Bringing it in is one of the more established distributor groups, United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), which has been the company behind Foton and Chery.
Lynk & Co is not your usual Chinese brand as it blends the expertise of Volvo when it comes to luxury cars, technology, and safety, with Geely’s significant financial backing and economies of scale. Lynk & Co is also positioned as a more upscale brand that offers conventional ICE, hybrid, and EV models.
The brand even has some racing pedigree, winning the FIA World Touring Car team championship in 2019, 2020, and 2021 with the Cyan Racing team.
A growing portfolio

The addition of the brand shows UAAGI’s ambition to expand its portfolio. Lynk & Co will fit nicely into its lineup of brands as Foton serves commercial vehicle needs, Chery meets passenger car needs, and Lynk & Co will serve the more premium side of the customer spectrum.
To help promote its new brand, UAAGI is also tapping some experienced personnel. This includes former TCCCI executive Lyn Buena and other key personnel who have handled brands like Volvo, Chevrolet, and MG to head up marketing for the brand.
First few models

Lynk & Co has an enviable roster of models, from the WTCR championship-winning 03 sedan to a number of crossovers.
Given our market and the slowing demand for sedans though, it’s more likely that Lynk & Co will be offering mostly crossovers and SUVs in the Philippines. Some of the likely candidates are the 06 and the 01 models.
The 06 is the smaller SUV, around the same size as the Geely Coolray. While it may share a platform and engine with the aforementioned vehicle, the 06 will feel much more premium. In fact the similarity won’t even be evident thanks to the starkly different appearance. Powering the 06 is a 1.5-liter turbo paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic.

The 01, on the other hand, is a larger SUV, about the size of a Honda CR-V. It boasts of a Plug-in Hybrid Electriv powertrain (PHEV) that includes a 2.0-liter engine and an electric motor. It’s capable of producing as much as 218 PS and will be paired with an 8-speed automatic. Being a PHEV, it will have an electric mode, petrol mode, or can use both simultaneously. Its onboard battery can also be plugged-in and charged to enjoy its short fully-electric, zero-emissions range. Once the battery is low, the ICE will power on automatically to begin to charge it, ensuring continuous operation without range anxiety.
These are just two of the possible models Lynk & Co may offer, but there may be more when the brand is finally launched.
Speaking of launch, UAAGI will likely make the formal debut during the upcoming Manila International Auto Show in April 2024. Besides having a vehicle or two on display, there might even be test drives of their new models available.
More details regarding Lynk & Co’s impending arrival and upcoming models will be revealed soon.
