The Philippine National Police (PNP) has received from the United States six robots, which it said, will reinforce its bomb disposal capabilities across the country.

PNP chief gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr., said the six robots, called BRAVE or Bomb Removal Automated Vehicle, were donated by the United States and were products of an international collaboration involving the students of De La Salle University (DLSU).

“This collaboration showcases the synergy that can be achieved when diverse talents and shared goals converge,” said Acorda.

“The initiative not only embraces innovation but also signifies a commitment to excellence and technological advancements in law enforcement, reshaping the future of policing in the Philippines,” he added.

Acorda said the conceptualization and the output that resulted in the creation of the six robots were under the guidance of Dr. Elmer P. Dadios, Head Professor in Robotics Engineering of DLSU.

He said the project, which cost around P45 million under the United States Anti-Terrorism Assistance (ATA), will be a big boost in responding to bomb threats, especially in suspicious packages

Responding to these threats is very dangerous. These robots will definitely lessen the risk of our personnel,” said Acorda.

The turnover ceremony was graced by Vincent Cooper, Senior Regional Security Officer of the US Embassy in Manila, and Congressman Jorge “Patrol” Bustos, Representative of PATROL Party-list.

The same event also paved the way for the groundbreaking ceremony for the EOD (explosive and Ordnance Division)/K9 Group Headquarters which Acorda described as a state-of-the-art facility “that would address evolving challenges faced by law enforcement, ensuring that personnel are equipped with the infrastructure needed for effective operations.”

“This moment is a celebration of the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to public service. The combined efforts behind the BRAVE robots and the EOD/K9 Group Headquarters symbolize the nation’s dedication to staying at the forefront of technology and preparedness,” said Acorda.
