Parañaque Mayor announces increase in financial assistance to college students

Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez announced an increase in the financial assistance being given to student beneficiaries of the college education financial assistance program both in public and private schools.
Olivarez made the announcement during his 2nd State of the City Address (SOCAD) on Monday, Feb. 12, held at the Parañaque City Sports Complex as the city celebrated its 26th cityhood anniversary on Feb. 13.
The city has a total of 3,465 scholars from District 1 and 2 receiving financial assistance of P3,500 per semester or a total of P7,000 with general weighted average (GWA) of 81 to 86 percent.
He said students with GWA of 87 percent and above receive P5,000 or a total of P10,000 per semester.
Olivarez said that starting this year, college students receiving P3,500 will get P8,000 or an equivalent of P4,000 per semester.
Those with a GWA of 87 and above will get P12,000 or P6,000 per semester from the previous P5,000 per semester or P10,000.
He also announced that the city government will also increase the number of students receiving college education financial assistance to 5,000 from 3,465.
The mayor said the city government continue to give hope to many youths by providing them with quality education and opportunities to achieve their dreams.
