President Marcos has urged Filipino Christians to reflect and renew their faith as they observe Ash Wednesday on Feb. 14, an occasion meant to open Christians to spiritual reflection and connect with God.

In a short Facebook post, the President posted a photo of himself with a black cross daubed on his forehead.

"In observing Ash Wednesday, let us all reflect and renew our faith," he wrote.

Ash Wednesday takes place around six weeks before Easter Sunday or the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The occasion honors the 40 days Christ spent in the desert by fasting and practicing self-control.

Last year, Marcos hoped Ash Wednesday would inspire the public to continue to be of service to others.

"We pray for our nation's quiet reflection this Ash Wednesday," he had said.

"As we prepare for the season of Lent, may the love of Christ inspire us to endure and faithfully continue our service to others," he added.
