Mag ingat sa fake: Makati LGU warns public of fake Facebook page
The Makati City local government on Tuesday, Feb. 13, cautioned the public against a fake social media page using its name and photo that may be used in committing crimes and scams.

According to the local government unit (LGU), it has already reported the poser account to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the arrest of those involved in the creation of the fake page for violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
"Sa ating #ProudMakatizens at sa lahat ng netizens, maging kritikal tayo sa pagbabasa ng impormasyon sa social media lalo na sa mga naglalabasang accounts na tulad nito. Suriing mabuti ang mga pangalan ng page at mga detalye tungkol dito. Importanteng tignan agad kung may Meta Verified badge ang page (To our #ProudMakatizens and all netizens, please be critical in reading information in social media especially those coming from fake accounts like this. Please be wary of the names of these pages and other details about it. It's important to look for the Meta Verified badge of the page)," it said.
The LGU urged the public to report these fake Facebook pages and sites and to not entertain messages and requests being sent from these adding that the My Makati page with the blue check from Facebook is the only official page of the city government.
This was not the first time a fake Facebook page of Makati and its mayor, Abby Binay, was discovered.
In 2019, a fake Facebook page posing as Mayor Abby called "Mayor Abby Binay," was discovered using the photos of the mayor.
"Amin po kayong binabalaan na mag-ingat sa mga hindi makatotohanang balita at mga Facebook pages na nagpapanggap bilang si Mayor Abby Binay (We are warning everyone about fake news and Facebook pages posing as Mayor Abby Binay)," the Information and Community Relations Department (ICRD) said.
"Ang mga opisyal na announcements ay manggagaling lamang sa ating My Makati Facebook page (We only post our official announcements on My Makati Facebook page)," ICRD said.
