Globe Telecom Inc. has activated a significant segment of its Philippine Domestic Submarine Cable Network (PDSCN), providing better on-ground connections to customers in key areas across Luzon to Mindanao.
The activated segment of the PDSCN Express Route covers Lucena City, Quezon; Boac, Marinduque; Calatrava, Tablas Island, Romblon; Roxas City, Capiz; Placer, Masbate; Palompon, Leyte; Mactan, Cebu; Talisay City, Cebu; Tagbilaran City, Bohol; and Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental.
Globe Senior Vice President (SVP) and Head of Network Planning and Engineering Joel Agustin said the PDSCN Express Route supports the telco's initiatives to strengthen network connections, improve efficiency and security, and reduce service errors, especially to geographically-isolated areas.
"It will also enhance the reliability and resilience of our network given the country’s vulnerability to disasters and calamities,” he remarked.
The 2,500 kilometer-long submarine cable network is said to be the longest in the country, and Globe's fourth domestic submarine network.
Launched in July 2022 in Subic Bay, Zambales, the network has 24 segments with 33 landing sites connecting the whole archipelago.
The PDSCN is a joint project of Globe, Eastern Communications, and InfiniVAN, Inc.
"PDSCN is a vital component of our network expansion program and proof of our unwavering commitment to bridging the digital divide in the Philippines. We firmly believe in improving the country's digital infrastructure to achieve a more inclusive and equitable digital future for all Filipinos," said Agustin.
Around 90 percent of the cable landing stations under the $150 million subsea cable project have been completed, With the rest to be completed by this year, according to Globe.
“The wet segment was finished as scheduled last year. Our focus now is connecting our inland facilities," said Agustin.
