3 shows to watch out for at ALT Philippines 2024
Time to mark your calendars
Now on its third show, ALT Philippines 2024, a project of nine progressive galleries, is bringing the works of 200 contemporary artists in one exhibition.

With the promise to challenge the norms and serve new perspectives, some of the highlights of this year's show include a special project space featuring five critically acclaimed artists, namely Juan Alcazaren, Geraldine Javier, Pete Jimenez, Oca Villamiel, and Isabel Santos. These artists will present works that shed light on different socio-cultural topics, including philosophical take on life's meaning and environmental concerns.
There will also be a moving image show curated by Cocoy Lumbao, Jr., titled "Sync, Memory." This is ALT Philippines' dedicated video section designed to offer a one-of-a-kind immersive experience through video space and video image. Loosely derived from Vladimir Nabokov’s memoir, "Speak, Memory," the group exhibition aims to highlight video as a medium that advances artistic expression. It features artists who constantly engage in methods such as video installation, moving image, digital motion, animation, and recorded video processes and performance. The show will include new works by Victor Balanon, Manny Montelibano, Christina Lopez, and Miguel Lorenzo Uy, as well as collaborations by Jim Lumbera and Joey Singh, and Kira Dalena and Ben Brix.

Lastly, a live multimedia performance from Somatosonic—a multidisciplinary art unit composed of Christina Dy, a visual artist and dancer; Tad Ermitaño, a media and sound artist; and Marco Ortega, a sculptor and specialist in kinetic media. The trio produces collaborative works incorporating media and techniques from various members' specializations. Alongside their collaborative artworks, Somatosonic also performs with artist-made instruments, augmented by electronic textures and a sonified dance performance. Their performance at ALT 2024 will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at 6 p.m.
These are just some of the shows during ALT Philippines 2024, happening this Feb. 21 to 25, 2024, at SMX 4 Mall of Asia Complex. For more information, visit www.altphilippines.com.
