Netflix unveils 2024 shows from Taiwan; Greg Hsu to star in spin-off of ‘Marry My Dead Body’


Netflix has unveiled four Chinese-language shows from Taiwan including a spin-off of the box office hit film “Marry My Dead Body” starring actor Greg Hsu. 

“As we dive into 2024, our focus is on diversifying our Chinese-language content to offer you even more entertainment options. We’ll work closely with top and emerging creators and talents in Taiwan, and invest in must-watch and quality Chinese-language content, including genres that are less represented on screen, to tell stories that are impactful, relatable and authentic to audiences,” according to Maya Huang, head of Chinese-Language Content. 

Let’s Talk About Chu

One of the shows is “Let’s Talk about Chu,” which premiered on Feb. 2 about “the intricacies of sex and love through the Chu family.? 

The series stars Kai Ko and Chan Tzu-hsuan. In the series, the youngest daughter, Chu Ai (Chan Tzu-hsuan), is a wax therapist while running a sex education social media channel. Guided by the mantra “make love, not fall in love,” she navigates her anxieties through a friends-with-benefits relationship with Ping-ke (Kai Ko), who also shares her skepticism about love.

Let’s Talk About Chu (Netflix)

Her older sister Chu-wei (Kimi Hsia), meanwhile, faces marital challenges with her husband Shi-chieh (Umin Boya); while her brother, Yu-sen (JC Lin), breaks up with his long-time boyfriend after being trapped in an unbalanced relationship. 

Against the backdrop of a strained relationship between their parents, played by Miao Ke-li and Hong Sheng-te, the series delves into whether Chu Ai can find a path to self-discovery, satisfy her desires, and establish a meaningful relationship.

GG Precinct 

“GG Precinct” is a spin-off of Taiwan’s entry to the 2024 Oscars, “Marry My Dead Body,” which became a box office hit.  

Hunk Greg Hsu will reprise his role as a police detective in “GG Precinct.”

“Marry My Dead Body” won the audience award at the Asian World Film Festival and New York Asian Film Festival; best screenplay at the 2023 Taipei Film Awards; and best adapted screenplay at the 60th Golden Horse Awards

The Victims’ Game: Season 2 

“Fans of detective series The Victims’ Game, the first Chinese-language production renewed by Netflix, will be excited to know that the second season will land this year. Join Fang Yi-jen (Joseph Chang) as he becomes the prime suspect in a new murder case, risking everything to prove his innocence and rebuild his relationship with his daughter. The original cast — Joseph Chang, Hsu Wei-ning, Jason Wang, Moon Lee — along with new additions like Japanese actor Dean Fujioka, Hong Kong star Terrance Lau, and Taiwanese singer Tarcy Su, promise another gripping season,” according to Huang.

The Victims’ Game (Netflix)

In season 2, former investigator Fang Yi-jen (Joseph Chang) starts a new life with his daughter Chiang Hsiao-meng (Moon Lee). 

But he becomes embroiled in a series of deaths, becoming the main suspect. The deaths link back to a murder case he responded to 15 years ago. Prosecutor Chang Keng-ha (Dean Fujioka) doubts Fang and his mentor Lin Ching-jui’s integrity. Fang collaborates with Detective Chao Cheng-kuan (Jason Wang) and forensic examiner Hsueh Hsin-ning (Tarcy Su) to uncover the truth and prove his innocence, or he risks losing his relationship with Chiang once again.

Born for the Spotlight

“Born for the Spotlight” is a series that stars Hsieh Ying-hsuan, Cheryl Yang and Hsueh Shih-ling.

Nothing can hurt the friendship between Hsueh Ya-chi (Hsieh Ying-hsuan) and Zhou Fan (Cheryl Yang), until Ya-chi decides to marry Li Zi-chi (Hsueh Shih-ling). The unexpected marriage drives a rift between the two actresses, who become rivals and a source of fodder for the press.
