'Maligo ka muna': Villanueva hits back at House appropriations chief

"Kung maglalabas po kayo ng baho , dapat naman siguro maligo ka muna ("If you're going to leave a bad smell, maybe you should take a shower first)."


This was one of the strong statements of Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva against Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc. (PCFI) President Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co in response to the latter's claims against the senator last week.

In a privileged speech during Monday's session, Feb. 12, Villanueva once again refuted Co's accusation that he has pending cases before the Ombudsman.

Co stated in a radio interview wherein he blasted Villanueva after being irked by the latter's "Who is he?" response to the challenge of House Majority Leader Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe for senators to reveal their stand on Charter change (Cha-cha).

"Mr. President, 2019 pa po, dinimiss na po ang kasong ito na ipinaparatang sa atin (Mr. President, this case being hurled against me has been dismissed since 2019)," Villanueva said.

"Mr. President, is the Pope Catholic? Nag-research at nag-aral po ba ang nag-aakusang ito sa atin? Kakalkalin ngayon ang kaniyang mga kaso...dahil pumasok siya sa away na di niya away, kailangan niya magbabanggit ng mga personal attacks, e kakalkalin po itong mga atraso niya sa bayan (Did this person accusing me research and study?...since he entered a fight that does not concern him, uttering personal attacks, then his offenses against the public will be dug)," he added.

Villanueva mentioned Sunwest Corporation, which according to him, is owned by Co and one of the biggest government contractors in the country is involved in the infamous Pharmally scandal, the Department of Education's (DepEd) botched laptop deal, and is facing tax cases before the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

He mentioned how it's unfortunate that Co was still appointed as House Appropriations Committee chair despite these cases.

"Ang masaklap po, sa kabila po ng track record na ito ni Mr. Zaldy Co, inappoint po siya ng Kamara de Representates bilang tagapagbantay ng kaban ng bayan (What's unfortunate is, despite this track record of Mr. Zaldy Co, he was still appointed by the House of Representatives to guard the government coffers)" he said.

"Si Dracula, inappoint bilang tagapagbantay ng blood bank ng bayan (You appointed Dracula to protect the blood supply)," he added.

He also refuted Co's claim that he's belittling the House of Representatives (HOR), saying that he would not reach wherever he is right now if not for being a member of HOR.

Villanueva ended his speech by calling to end the "fake" PI.
