BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-5.3 earthquake jolted Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur on Monday morning, February 12.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor was recorded at 10:03 a.m. and its epicenter was 92 kilometers (kms) northeast of Siargao.
The tectonic earthquake had a depth of 19 kms, Phivolcs said.
It was felt at Intensity III in General Luna and Dapa; Intensity II in Burgos and Claver, and Intensity I in Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands.
In instrumental intensity, the earthquake was felt at Intensity II in Surigao City, the capital of Surigao del Sur.
The earthquake was caused by the Philippine Trench, Phivolcs said.
No damage and injuries are expected from the earthquake but aftershocks are anticipated, Phivolcs said.
The Surigao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.
