Man arrested, attacked by people after stabbing 3 tricycle drivers
A 35-year-old man was arrested after stabbing three tricycle drivers in Tondo, Manila on Saturday night, Feb. 10.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said that the suspect, identified as Jaworski Sermania, also sustained injuries after witnesses attacked him during his arrest.
Authorities said initial investigation disclosed that the victims, who were identified as Ruel Tulibas, 28, Melvin Bitas, 33, and Gerald Vacunawa, 35, were having a drinking session at Masinop Street, Barangay 42 in Tondo at around 9:45 p.m.
The victims said that while they were drinking, the suspect suddenly appeared and confronted them that resulted in a heated argument.
During the argument, they said the suspect immediately pulled out a butterfly knife (balisong) from his pocket and stabbed Tulibas at the back of his head.
Vitas and Vacunawa tried to get the knife from the suspect to prevent him from stabbing others, but the suspect still managed to stab them.
The police said that the victims immediately ran away and called for help, but the suspect chased them.
Personnel of Barangay 42 saw the commotion and immediately called the police, which resulted in the suspect's arrest and confiscation of his knife.
Meanwhile, the victims were brought to Gat Andres Memorial Medical Center and were discharged on Sunday, Feb. 11.
The suspect is now under the custody of MPD-Moriones Police Station (PS-2) and is facing frustrated homicide charges, police said.
