Senior killed in Cagayan collision

LAL-LO, Cagayan – An elderly woman died after she was hit by a parked vehicle in Barangay Catayauan here on Friday afternoon, February 9.

Police identified the victim as Josefa Julia, 67.

Julia was sitting on the road shoulder when a police car driven by Police Corporal Alden Doblado, 29, of the Aparri, Cagayan police tried to overtake an L-300 van.

However, the police car rammed the L-300 van and two parked vehicles, a Mitsubishi Montero Sports Utility Vehicle and an Isuzu closed van parked on the road shoulder.

The SUV moved forward and bumped Julian who was taken to a hospital where she died due to serious injuries.

Doblado and his passenger were also taken to the hospital.

Officer-on-case Police Master Sergeant Loreto Verzon Jr. said Doblado faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and violation of the anti-drunk driving law.
