Favour Onoh is looking forward to playing for the Gilas Pilipinas Women as she anticipates the official call-up from program director and head coach Pat Aquino.

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons center, who is one of the national team program’s top prospects as a naturalized player, was thrilled to receive a call from Aquino.
Though there hasn’t been an official meeting yet between two parties, the 18-year-old UAAP Season 86 Rookie of the Year is feeling honored as she waits patiently to fill in the spot.
“I wanna say a very big thank you to the Gilas Pilipinas Women team. I’m very much excited because I really want to play for Gilas, I want to play for the national team here in the Philippines. So it will be a good honor for me to be in the national team,” Onoh told Manila Bulletin during the UP Fight Isang Pagdiriwang ng Utak at Pusong Palaban at the University Theatre on Friday, Feb. 9.
The women’s national team is short of a naturalized player as point guard Vanessa De Jesus suffered a knee injury two months after taking the spot for a naturalized player for Gilas in the 2023 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup.
Onoh led the State U to its first UAAP Final Four appearance after a 16-year wait as they finished as bronze medalists in the recent season.
There, the Nigerian tallied a UAAP record 30 rebounds in their semifinal clash against the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses.
With her potential addition to the rotation, Onoh is making sure she can display one hundred percent of her skills and talents for the Nationals.
“I’m gonna be one hundred percent. I’m gonna be more than one hundred percent.“
