Damage, aftershocks expected from 5.8-magnitude quake in Agusan Del Norte --- Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned of expected damage and aftershocks following a magnitude 5.8 earthquake that jolted Agusan Del Norte on Saturday, Feb. 10.

In an update, Phivolcs said it recorded the earthquake at 11:22 a.m. and located its epicenter five kilometers (km) southwest of Las Nieves in Agusan Del Norte.

The tremor, which occurred at a depth of 30 km, was tectonic or caused by the movement of an active fault near the area according to Phivolcs.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was “strong” at Intensity V in Las Nieves, Agusan Del Norte.

Intensity IV or “moderately strong” was recorded in Libona and San Fernando, Bukidnon; City of Iligan; City of Gingoog, Jasaan, Magsaysay, and Medina, Misamis Oriental; City of Bayugan, Prosperidad, and Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur.

The quake was “weak” at Intensity III in Jagna, Bohol; Baungon, Cabanglasan, Impasug-ong, Kitaotao, City of Malaybalay, Malitbog, Manolo Fortich, Maramag, Quezon, Talakag, and City of Valencia, Bukidnon; City of El Salvador, MISAMIS ORIENTAL; Mawab and Nabunturan, Davao De Oro; City of Digos, Davao Del Sur; City Of Davao; and Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur.

Intensity II (slightly felt) was recorded in Inabanga, and Loboc, Bohol; Don Carlos and Kalilangan, Bukidnon; Catarman, Guinsiliban, Mahinog, Mambajao, and Sagay, Camiguin; Matanao, Davao Del Sur; Banisilan, City of Kidapawan, Makilala, and Tulunan, Cotabato.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs said the quake was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur; Arakan and Kabacan, Cotabato; and the City of Marawi, 
Lanao Del Sur.

Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the tremor at Intensity IV in San Fernando and Talakag, Bukidnon; City of Cagayan De Oro; and City of Digos, Davao Del Sur.

It was recorded at Intensity III - Balingasag, Misamis Oriental; City of Tandag, Surigao Del Sur and Intensity II at the City of Davao; Banisilan and City of Kidapawan, Cotabato; Alabel and Malungon, Sarangani.

The quake was also recorded at Intensity I in Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur; M'lang, Cotabato; Tampakan and Tupi, South Cotabato.
