TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – African Swine Fever has infected 33 pigs in Peñablanca and Alcala, this province.
Dr. Myka Ponce of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) said 12 pigs owned by two hog raisers were culled in Nabbabalayan, Peñablanca after they showed ASF symptoms.
Seventeen pigs in Centro Sur and four in Tupang, Alcala owned by two hog raisers also had signs of the disease.
Ponce said they immediately banned the entry and exit of live hogs and pork meat in the affected areas to prevent the spread of ASF.
A massive disinfection in affected areas is being conducted, the PVET said.
Ponce urged hog raisers to consult their Municipal Agriculturist Office (MAO) when they observe symptoms of ASF in their domestic pigs – redness of the skin, immediate death, weakness or inability to stand, and refusal to eat.
