Several "angpaos" or red envelopes were thrown to celebrants as the Chinese New Year Solidarity Parade passed the streets in Binondo, Manila on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10, in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

The grand parade was participated by 20 floats boarded by different Filipino-Chinese organizations.

Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto also joined this year's parade and threw angpaos, t-shirts, snacks, and lucky charms to the revelers.

The Manila Police District said the crowd has reached tens of thousands as of noon and will continue to increase throughout the day.

Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan extended her greetings to the members of the Chinese-Filipino community.

In her statement, the mayor cited the role of the Chinese-Filipino or Chinoy community in shaping the city's rich history and progress over the years.

She noted the great contributions of Chinoys to the city’s programs and thanked them for supporting the local government of Manila in all its undertakings.

Lacuna-Pangan also expressed utmost pride over how Chinoy communities in Manila helped the city in addressing the pandemic.

She added that the city government will continue working hand-in-hand with them to establish even deeper ties. She assured the public that the local government is prudent with city funds, making sure that not a single cent goes to waste, as it is the only way that the city can repay the support it gets from its taxpayers.
