The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude 5.5 earthquake in Agusan Del Sur at 1:21 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The quake’s epicenter was located 10 kilometers (km) southeast of Esperanza in Agusan Del Sur.
Phivolcs noted that the tremor, which occurred at a depth of 39 km, was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area or “tectonic.”
Based on its instruments, Phivolcs said the quake was “weak” at Intensity III in the City Of Cagayan De Oro; San Fernando, Bukidnon; and City of Tandag, Surigao Del Sur.
While damage is expected, Phivolcs said it is not expecting aftershocks.
