'Zero to 1' tropical cyclone may enter, form within PAR in February — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Feb. 1 said “zero to one” tropical cyclone may enter or form within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this month.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said"Aghon" is the first tropical cyclone name on the PAGASA list for 2024.
He also discussed the general or average track of tropical cyclones in February.
"Iyong mga nabubuong bagyo tuwing Pebrero sa silangan ng Mindanao ay umaakyat nang bahagya at lumalapit or either maglalandfall sa may area ng Visayas or Mindanao (The tropical cyclones formed every month of February in the east portion of Mindanao move up and go near or either make landfall to areas of Visayas and Mindanao)," Estareja said.
"Ikalawang scenario ay may nabubuong mga bagyo sa may parteng Philippine Sea or Pacific Ocean or pumapasok ng Philippine area of responsibility pero lumilihis ng direksyon o nagrerecurve palayo ng bansa (Second scenario is there are tropical cyclones formed in part of the Philippine Sea or Pacific Ocean or enter Philippine Area of Responsibility but recurve away from the country)," he added.
Meanwhile, the low pressure area (LPA) being monitored outside PAR, located 195 kilometers southwest of General Santos City still has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
However, Estareja said PAGASA is not ruling out the possibility that the LPA will enter the PAR.
"In the coming days posibleng malusaw ito or sumobsob pababa malapit sa may equator at hindi rin natin inaalis iyong possibility na papasok ito saglit sa ating area of responsibility pero lalabas din po ito after few hours (In the coming days, the LPA may dissipate or plunge down near the equator and we also do not rule out the possibility for it to enter our area of responsibility for a while but it will move out after few hours)," he said.
