PRO-8 assists families of 3 cops slain in Samar clash


TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-8 has turned over cash assistance to the families of the three police officers slain in an encounter with a criminal gang in Santa Margarita, Samar on Tuesday, January 30.

Police Brig. Gen. Reynaldo Pawid led the turnover in Calbayog City, Samar.

The slain lawmen were serving warrants of arrest to gang leader Edito Ampoan Jr. and three others for murder and frustrated murder when his group fired at the victims in the upland Barangay Mahayag.

The fatalities were identified as Police Staff Sgt. Christian Tallo of the 1st Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company, Police Corporal Eliazar Estrelles Jr. of the 1st SPMFC, and Police Master Sgt. Paul Terence Paclibar of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-8.

Pawid awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting to the four wounded policemen during the encounter.

They were identified as Police Corporal Rannel Pedamato, Police Corporal Mark Jason Sixta, Police Patrolman Ham Kritnere Capalis, and Police Patrolman Mark Redoblado, all from the 1st SPMFC.

PRO-8 said that they will do their best to bring justice to the families of the slain policemen.

Seven suspected members of the group were arrested and several firearms and ammunition were seized following the encounter.
