Makati City Mayor Abby Binay has pioneered a string of accomplishments, pioneering projects, and citations in 2023 that were not just recognized by Filipinos but also by the rest of the world.

Binay was recently appointed to the UN Secretary-General Advisory Group and the COP28 Advisory Committee for her dedication and passion in not just overcoming climate change but also in helping other countries and cities lobby for funding for their respective climate action initiatives.
Makati’s Virtual Queuing Management System won the Galing Pook 2023 Award which is widely regarded for its revolutionary approach to healthcare that minimizes wait times and enhances patient experience, thus, setting a new standard in medical care accessibility.
She inaugurated the Makati Life Medical Center which is the country’s biggest public-private partnership (PPP) hospital built.
Her administration also launched numerous programs aimed at ensuring the health and wellness of moms and their children which include prenatal checkups, newborn screenings, and vaccinations.
The mayor also spearheaded various programs for the city’s elderly such as the distribution of free medicines, essential allowances, and other benefits which include cash gifts and free movie access.
Binay also launched the Lingkod Bayan Caravan which brought various health and social services closer to her constituents. Regularly held in the 28 barangays of Makati, the caravan offers free healthcare services closer to Makatizens.
Makati City also kicked off the digitalization of its citizens’ personnel documents such as Health Certificates and employed mobile data collection tools for Household Profiling. This way, the delivery of healthcare and other services has become more efficient, data-driven, targeted specifically for Makati’s residents.
Binay also expanded Makati’s Project FREE that has supported more than 74,000 students with essential resources such as uniforms, shoes, bags, and school supplies.
The city government also launched free out-of-school tours, field trips, and virtual learning experiences through the Makati City Public Library’s Children’s Section and the Lakbay Aral Program at Museo ng Makati.
Students from the city’s public schools and the University of Makati (UMak) also bagged top spots in numerous competitions and recognitions from award giving bodies for their top-notched educational prowess.
For its social services, thousands of jobseekers were given employment opportunities through numerous job fairs, indicating Binay’s administration’s commitment in boosting the economic prosperity of Makati.
International relations and cultural diplomacy have also been a focus of the city government in 2023.
By hosting National Day celebrations with foreign embassies and engaging in afternoon tea with diplomatic spouses, Binay has continued to forge and strengthen the city’s connections and partnerships with other countries around the globe.
The city government had also made notable progress in embracing renewable energy, with the transition to solar panels in public schools and government buildings in 2023.
Makati’s integration of advanced technologies such as smart sensors and data analytics into governance was also well regarded by other local and international leaders.
The city also received multiple awards and was a finalist in the 2023 World Smart Cities Awards, the only city from the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region to achieve this distinction.
