Rie Miyake is trailblazing a new trail for automotive executives not just by shattering the glass ceiling and becoming the first woman to lead a Japanese auto brand. She is also leading by compassion and turning her attention on the youth.

Among one her first events as Honda Cars Philippines (HCPI) President was a refreshing change from the typical tree-planting or beach cleaning activities. Instead, Honda invited members of the media to visit the Pawssion Project Foundation in San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan. The facility is a shelter for stray dogs and cats that aims to rehabilitate and rehome abused and neglected animals in an effort to encourage pet adoption.

HCPI also sees the value of nurturing ingenuity in the youth, partnering with the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) for an innovation competition for young Filipinos in Senior High School. The program fosters creative, innovative and collaborative mindsets among students by enabling them to solve problems of their respective communities or achieve a particular purpose using critical thinking, experimentation, risk analysis, engineering, and technical skills.

Finally, Honda is also hoping to reduce the harmful effects of automotive-related waste products. In partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and Oriental - Motolite Marketing Corporation, their battery recycling program promotes the proper recycling or disposal of lead-acid batteries and used oil, particularly by its dealer partners and suppliers.
