Imee Marcos: 'I will do anything to salvage the UniTeam'
Senator Imee Marcos on Thursday, February 1 said she will do anything to save the UniTeam, saying she finds it hard to accept that the alliance between the Marcoses and the Dutertes has been ruined in a little over a year.
“Let me be candid. I will do anything to salvage the UniTeam,” Marcos said in an interview on ANC’s Headstart.
“Remember, I am also apparently the author of the UniTeam. Ipaglalaban ko ang pagkakaisa ng Marcos at Duterte (I will fight for the unity of the Marcoses and Dutertes) because Vice President Sara has actually said and revealed that I brought her in and convinced me to be the running mate of my brother,”
“And as she got roped in, we determined to coin the name apparently from me as well, UniTeam. And I’m determined to salvage whatever shreds remain of that unity,” she further said.
“It’s good for our country, it is good for development and for our future,” added the lawmaker.
The President’s sister also said that would be the purpose of her trip to Davao this weekend. The senator will be in Davao City on Friday, February 2 to preside over the investigation of the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People's Participation on the bribery allegations in the signature campaign for a People's Initiative (PI).
She said she will attempt to speak to the Duterte’s and of course, with the vice president, whom she hasn’t seen for a while.
“It’s very, very clear that my effort was simply to try and patch things up because to my mind, the principles continue to work with each other very happily except when interference from so many other pressures, influences and other politicians come in. That’s the problem,” she lamented.
As far as she is concerned, the senator said she hasn’t lost hope that the rift between their families would be mended.
“I continue to pray that we can put things together and that the UniTeam, in some form or other, will continue to survive and help the country in the future,” she said.
