Honasan urges PBBM to extend hand of unity to FPRRD, 2 other former presidents
Former senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan has appealed to President Marcos to extend the hand of unity not only to former president Rodrigo Duterte but also to two other living former chief executives.
In a statement, Honasan said unity of the country’s leaders are important at this point, otherwise, this may lead to deterioration of the political situation that may eventually lead to unmanageable and irreversible damage to Philippine institutions.
“As a concerned private citizen, I raise my voice to call for sobriety and calm between our two great leaders, President Bongbong Marcos and former President Rodrigo Duterte. We respectfully and humbly appeal to President Marcos Jr. to extend the hand of unity to former President Duterte,” said Honasan.
“Let him also include former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Erap Estrada and convene an executive meeting among them. Four great leaders in one room, our most senior statesmen, away from the prying eyes of the media,” he added.
Honasan emphasized that a personal meeting among the present and former top leaders is good for the country since all of them want the best for the country in the first place.
He said the personal meeting should discuss and decide on matters affecting the highest public and national interest, before reporting all that were agreed by them to the Filipino people.
“By avoiding media presence, the focus can remain solely on finding sustainable solutions that prioritize the best interests of the public and the nation as a whole. Given their esteemed status as senior statesmen, they possess the capability to collectively determine the necessary steps to effectively confront these issues,” said Honasan.
“I hope that my proposal is heard and be given consideration. We are better off united than divided,” he added.
