Francis Casey Alcantara maintained his career-high doubles ranking in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) following his recent feat in India.

The Southeast Asian Games doubles champion kept his hold of the No. 176 spot this week after he and Indonesian partner Christopher Rungkat ruled the M25 Chennai International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament over the weekend.
It was Alcantara’s 23rd ITF doubles title and third overall with Rungkat after the dynamic tandem prevailed in the M15 Kuala Lumpur and M15 Ipoh Perak in Malaysia last year.
It was also Alcantara’s first crown this year after three unsuccessful attempts in Thailand the past weeks.
United Tennis Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier, who is also Alcantara’s long-time sponsor, lauded the 31-year-old’s recent feat.
“I am so proud and elated with how Niño (Alcantara) has been playing since late last year. He deserves it for all his hard work and Cebuana Lhuillier and I are here to support him in his quest for greater glory for the country,” said Lhuillier, who is also a board member of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta).
“I hope he cracks the top 100 and gets to play in the majors later this year and in the years to come”, said he added.
Alcantara is coming off a banner year after winning the mixed doubles bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last September with Alex Eala.
He also won the men’s doubles gold medal at the 32nd SEAG in Cambodia with Ruben Gonzales.
