4 die in fireworks factory blast in Laguna

CABUYAO CITY, Laguna – Four persons died in a fireworks factory explosion in Barangay Bigaa here on Thursday afternoon, February 1.

Fatalities were identified as Marvin Lamela Ocom, 27; Bebot Reymundodia, 44; Ricardo Olic-Olic, 51, and John Ronald Gonzales Deduro, 23.

Initial investigation said an explosion occurred and a fire spread within the working area of the factory.

Three workers sustained injuries and were brought to the Ospital ng Cabuyao and other nearby hospitals.

Two persons were found dead within the explosion area in mopping-up operations.

The Bureau of Fire Protection-Cabuyao, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and police controlled the fire and secured the area.

Fire out was declared by the BFP at 4:26 p.m. 

Arson investigators are determining the cause of the explosion.

The Diamond Fireworks Inc. factory is owned by the Lebrilla and Aquino families and had been operating for almost two decades.
