2023 was QC's best year - Mayor Joy Belmonte

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said that 2023 was the best year so far for the city government after its harvest of multiple awards and citations for the city’s programs on equality, human rights, environmental protection, livelihood, businesses, and social services for the people.


The United Nations Environment Programme also named Belmonte a “champion of the Earth” for her efforts to transform the Philippines’ most populous city into an environmental trailblazer. She was recognized in the policy leadership category of the 2023 Champions of the Earth award, which is the intergovernmental organization’s highest environmental honor.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) named Mayor Joy Belmonte as Most Outstanding Business Friendly mayor for her successful BizEasy project whose digitalized processes helped businessmen with faster, efficient, and corruption-free City Hall transactions.

QC was also cited as the ”2023 Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit” in the country under the “ Highly Urbanized City Category“ by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) due to this and other initiatives in making businesses easier and faster.

Belmonte received the Dangal ng Bayan Award from the Gawad Pilipino Awards of EUROTV Philippines for her excellent and honest leadership and for her dedication and worth ethic.

Among the city’s achievements for the year 2023  was the collection of more than P20.3 billion locally sourced revenues from taxes, business, and other fees which is bigger than the P16 billion revenue collected before she assumed as the local chief executive in 2018.

She also received the Civil Service Commission-National Capital Region (CSC-NCR) Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award for her outstanding performance as a public servant in 2023.

Belmonte was named "National Outstanding Mayor of the Year" by the Saludo Excellence Awards; "Outstanding Mayor" citation during the 7th Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Accredited National Convention of Public Attorneys; and "Outstanding Women" and Public Servant of the Year from the Crystal International Women's Awards, among many other awards.

The city government also bagged several awards this year including the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) as a “Notable Public Official for Active Transport” citation for the establishment of the more than 173-kilometer bike lane on the city’s major roads as well as other facilities to encourage residents to use the environment-friendly two-wheeled vehicles; Accelerating Reforms for Improved Service and Efficiency (ARISE) Award from the Anti-Red Tape Authority for its excellent implementation of “Ease of Doing Business Law;” multiple awards during DILG’s  2023 Urban Governance Exemplar Awards; the City Council’s Most Outstanding Sangguniang Panlungsod in the National Capital Region in the 2023 Local Legislative Award (LLA); and the Seal of Good Local Governance Award from the national government; among others.

Belmonte vowed to continue to deliver quality programs and services to her constituents.
