Roman interprets VP Duterte's outbursts: 'Naghahanap siya ng simpatiya'

A plea for sympathy.

That's how Bataan 1st district Rep. Geraldine Roman described Vice President Sara Duterte's recent outbursts, which included her now-infamous death threats against President Marcos.

At the same time, Roman has described as baseless the Vice President’s claims that she is also being targeted by assassins herself.

“Honestly, wala akong naramdaman o na-perceive na pagbabanta sa buhay ng ating Bise Presidente,” said Roman, chairperson of the House Committee on Women and Gender Equality.

(Honestly, I don't see or perceive any threats to the life of our Vice President.)

“Looking at the videos of her threats against the President and her claim na siya ang pinagbabantaan ng buhay, parang ang interpretation ko doon ay parang it’s a call for help,” she noted.

“Maybe naghahanap siya ng simpatiya mula sa kanyang mga supporters. For me, it’s non-existent. Hindi ako naniniwalang may pagbabanta talaga sa buhay ni VP Sara.," the transgender solon further said.

(Maybe she's looking for sympathy from her supporters. For me, non-existent.I don't believe there's a real threat to VP Sara's life.)

Roman stressed, however, that credible threats against President Marcos exist. “As we have established and what we have seen is talagang mayroong pagbabanta sa buhay ng ating Pangulo (there really are threats to the life of the President)."

Last month, Vice President Duterte publicly confessed that she ordered someone to kill President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in the event that she herself gets slain.

Both the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have stated they have no evidence to support Duterte’s claims of an assassination plot against her.

PNP Spokesperson Police Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo confirmed that while Duterte mentioned “documented threats,” no copies of such documents have been provided to law enforcement.
