A total of 275,000 plastic boxes containing Noche Buena items were distributed by the Mandaluyong City government to residents as part of its Pamaskong Handog program on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos led the event, together with Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos and other city government officials, personally handing out the packages to the residents of 27 barangays of the city.
City officials also conducted a house-to-house delivery of the food packs to residents who were not able to personally claim theirs.
Condominium residents living in Mandaluyong were also given food packs by the city government.
Abalos said this method of distribution started during the Covid-19 pandemic and is still being done today.
Meanwhile, the city's tradition of giving pails containing other grocery items started in 1987 during Abalos' first term as city mayor.
