Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said that Roxas City was classified as a second-class city when he first became mayor in 2019 due to low National Tax Allotment collection.
“But this was changed due to transparent governance, effective, and sound financial management and consistent digital collection,” Dadivas said.
Dadivas said that the reclassification was also due to more investments in the city that resulted into an increase in employment and higher income for workers.
Roxas City earned the achievement as it is celebrating its annual Sinadya Festival in honor of its patroness saint.
Several municipalities in Capiz were also reclassified by the DOF.
The towns of Dumarao, Jamindan, and Pontevedra were elevated as first-class municipalities; Maayon, Mambusao, Pan-ay, Panitan, and Pilar, second-class municipalities; and President Roxas, Sapian, and Sigma, third-class municipalities.
