Man shot dead in Lanao Sur hours after ambush on retired cops; police eye 'rido'


Two people died while three others, including a retired policeman running for a local post in Lanao del Sur, were injured when unidentified men repeatedly shot their vehicle in Marogong town over the weekend.   

Five hours after the ambush that happened on Saturday, Dec. 7, police reported that a man in the same town, identified as Amir Mamaonting Adilao, was shot dead in front of his house.

Police said the killing of Adilao could be connected to the ambush. 

A report reaching the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said the ambush occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in Barangay Paigoay where a Toyota Innova was repeatedly shot by unidentified men.

The ambush left retired policeman Solaiman Alibasa and Hadji Asrap Sandab dead and wounded Sanaoray Alibasa, wife of Solaiman; Sarpia Mangayao; and, Ramil Bao.

According to the initial investigation of the CIDG, Bao was one of the targets over a rido, or a clan war which is common among traditional Muslim families.

Bao, a retired policeman and reportedly running for vice mayor in Malabang town in Lanao del Sur, has an existing rido with two families in Malabang and Marogong town, the initial information obtained by the CIDG disclosed. 

At around 9:45 p.m. on the same day, police reported that Adilao was shot dead in front of his house in Barangay Proper Marogong in Marogong town.
