Former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos extended his congratulations to Malabon City and Maguindanao del Sur for their remarkable achievements in sustainable development.
These localities earned the titles of Certified Most Sustainable and Liveable City and Certified Most Sustainable and Liveable Province, respectively, at the 2024 Nation Builder and Most Sustainable and Liveable (MOSLIV) Awards.
Abalos, who previously served as the mayor of Mandaluyong City, emphasized the critical role of local chief executives in driving sustainable development.
During his tenure as mayor, Abalos pushed for the Green Building Ordinance to
ensure that new infrastructures adhered to sustainability standards.
He recalled that the ordinance was intended to protect the environment and at the same time support Mandaluyong’s continuous development.
Abalos, a senatorial aspirant under the Alyansa Para sa Pagbabago 2025 slate, says fostering resilience, equity, and climate neutrality with legislation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
At the MOSLIV Awards, Davao del Norte State College was named the Certified Most Sustainable and Liveable University in the Philippines.
Distinguished leaders and organizations were likewise honored during the event. These include Malabon City mayor Jeannie Sandoval, Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib, and 1-PACMAN Party-list Rep. Michael Romero.
Abalos commended all awardees for their triumphant work in sustainable development. He also reaffirmed his support for a sustainable future.
