At least six individuals were injured in a 13-vehicle collision at the corner of United Nations and Taft Avenues in Manila on Monday, Dec. 9.

In the initial report of the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU), the sequence of collisions began when a Ford Everest, driven by Neil Aries Villamor San Pedro, lost control while speeding along UN Avenue.

The suspect claimed that he was unable to maintain control of the vehicle as it approached the intersection along Taft Avenue.

As a result, the left side of his vehicle struck the concrete center island and continued to move forward and collided with several other vehicles, causing a "chain reaction" that involved multiple motorcycles and cars.

A total of eight motorcycles, two tricycles, a pick-up truck and a car were affected in the incident, which caused heavy traffic in the area.

One of the motorcycles was also reportedly dragged by the SUV before it fully stopped.

Personnel of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office immediately arrived at the scene to give first aid treatment and rush the victims to the hospital.

Police said they are still investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, motorists were advised to avoid Taft Avenue as clearing operations are still ongoing.
