Rigger run over by truck in Negros

BACOLOD CITY â€“ A 61-year-old rigger died after he was run over by a hauler truck loaded with sugarcane in a transloading station in Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Police withheld the name of the victim, a resident of Barangay Camansi.

Police Capt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said the victim took a nap in front of the parked truck.

The 46-year-old driver from Bayawan City, Negros Oriental arrived and drove the truck and heard a loud noise. He checked and saw the victim run over by the truck.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead due to serious injuries. The driver said that he did not notice the victim before driving the vehicle.

Gasataya said that both parties have reached an initial settlement.

According to Cambridge Dictionary, a rigger is an individual who works with ropes, chains, and lifting devices in a construction site.
