Reigning champion De La Salle rekindles its UAAP rivalry with University of the Philippines when they clash for collegiate supremacy in Game 1 of the Season 87 men's basketball finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday, Dec. 8.

The Green Archers, who gun for their second straight championship, try to assert their mastery of the Fighting Maroons in their 5:30 p.m. encounter which is expected to draw a huge crowd at the Big Dome.
Before their much-awaited finals rematch, La Salle and UP cruised past UST and Adamson, respectively, in the semifinal.
Looking back in their first duel in the preliminaries, La Salle swept its two assignments against UP – a 68-56 win last Oct. 6, followed by a 77-66 triumph last Nov. 10.
But expect a hungrier UP side as it aims to erase the bitter memory of its finals defeat last season, with the State U collapsing in Games 2 and 3 of the series despite taking the opener in a rousing fashion.
In the preseason, the Maroons got back and beat the Archers twice, emphasizing UP's resilience that could go on to a different level in the best-of-three finale.
"Again, what’s obvious during those first two meetings was, you know, UP didn’t have a complete lineup. I guess that's one thing we haven’t seen," DLSU head coach Topex Robinson said. “Going back to our FilOil meetings, they beat us twice. That’s one thing that we have to remember.”
"Again, in this Finals, it’s about how we’re gonna be prepared. We know UP is always gonna be all-out and they like to be the best that they could be. And this is just gonna make us better, “ he added.
As expected, back-to-back MVP Kevin Quiambao is showing the way with Mike Phillips, Joshua David, EJ Gollena, Henry Agunanne and Lian Ramiro at La Salle’s forefront.
It is also an exciting collision between two talented big men in Phillips and Quentin Millora-Brown, who are both starring in the rebounding column of the collegiate league.
After being absent in the first and second round encounter with La Salle, Millora-Brown and JD Cagulangan are back in action and are anticipated to lead both ends alongside Alarcon, Francis Lopez, Gerry Abadiano and Terrence Fortea.
Meanwhile, UST goes for a kill over the unblemished NU squad when they clash in the first game of the women’s basketball finals set at 1 p.m.
