ILOILO CITY – Seven outstanding scientists and innovators were awarded for their contributions in advancing science, technology, and innovation (STI) in Western Visayas region this year.

The Idlab Merit Awards were given to Dr. Maryneth B. Barrios of Capiz State University (CAPSU), Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel N. Ferriols of University of the Philippines-Visayas (UP-Visayas), Dr. Rhea Joy D. Flora of Guimaras State University (GSU), Dr. Renerio S. Mucas of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), Dr. Jescel B. Bito-onon of Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST), Dr. Mae Flor G. Posadas of Central Philippine State University (CPU), and Dr. Anabelle E. Villaceran of State University of Northern Negros (SUNN).
The Idlab Awards that started in 2022 is an initiative of the Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Committee (RRDIC-6) under the Western Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC-6).
“The Idlab Awards serve as a powerful reminder of how science, technology, and research are integral to the region’s long-term development goals,” said Engr. Rowen Gelonga, regional director, Department of Science and Technology-6, during the awarding ceremony here.
The awardees have groundbreaking work in agriculture, fisheries, engineering, technology, and environmental sustainability.
“Through their works, they have raised the standard of research and created practical solutions that benefit local communities, industries, and the broader society,” added Gelonga, RRDIC-6 chairman.
Assisting Gelonga in handing out the awards on Dec. 5 was Regional Director Arecio Casing of the National Economic and Development Authority-6.
