DOLE expands career services to UP communities for greater employment access

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) inaugurated the University of the Philippines (UP) Job Placement Office (UP-JPO) on Friday, Dec. 6, at Ang Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman, Quezon City.

DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma highlighted that the UP-JPO acts as a localized Public Employment Service Office (PESO), offering free services such as career coaching, job placement, and employment facilitation.

In collaboration with UP and the UP Alumni Association (UPAA), Laguesma noted that the initiative reflects the services typically provided by LGU-based PESOs.

This partnership allows the university to host job fairs, career orientations, and other employment-related activities for students, alumni, and local communities, the labor chief noted.

DOLE has supported the project through capacity-building sessions, consultations, and infrastructure upgrades.

The initiative emerged from a tripartite agreement signed in December 2023 by DOLE, UP, and UPAA.

As a pilot program, Laguesma said the UP-JPO is expected to expand to all UP campuses across the country, further advancing DOLE’s goal of enhancing employment accessibility and professional development opportunities.
