BANGUED, Abra – Thousands of residents living in the southern part of this province will benefit as the “life-changing” Salnec-Madalipay-Dugong Bridge in Bucay spanning the mighty Abra River recently opened to traffic.
Built under two years starting in 2022, the 390-lineal meter bridge was inaugurated by Abra Rep. Menchie Bernos together with Bucay Mayor Judor Zales, League of Municipalities of the Philippines National President JB Bernos, and former Abra Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin.

“The 390-lineal meter Salnec-Madalipay-Dugong Bridge in Abra is a legacy bridge that will ease transportation for residents of southern riverside Bucay and travelers from the upland towns of Sallapadan, Bucloc, and Daguioman,” he said.
Mayor Bernos said that with the opening of the bridge, people will no longer use "balsa" or makeshift rafts to bring their vehicles, goods, and other essentials across the Abra River.
The bridge is among the 10 initiated by Mayor Bernos for Abra.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office led by Chairman Felix Reyes turned over 13 Patient Transport Vehicles (PTV) or ambulances to Abra.
These vehicles were received by Rep. Bernos and will be turned over to the towns of Bucloc, Daguioman, Lacub, Dolores, Sallapadan, Lagayan, Malibcong, San Isidro, San Quintin, Tineg, Langiden, Pilar, and Tubo.
Sallapadan Mayor Fernando Semanero Jr. said that the PTV will improve medical services in their town, a fifth-class municipality.
