This was announced by CWC Undersecretary Atty. Angelo Tapales, who served as the guest of honor during the city’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday, Dec. 2. After getting the perfect rating in CFLGA, the city will also be awarded the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance (SCFLG).
"Isa ang Mandaluyong sa anim na local government units (LGU) sa buong bansa ang mayroong 100% rating sa CFLGA. Patunay lamang ito na bukod sa child-friendly ang Mandaluyong ay perfect pa sa ginawang CFLGA. Kaya't ngayon pa lang ay binabati ko po ang buong lungsod (Mandaluyong is one of six local government units nationwide to achieve a perfect score in the CFLGA. This proves that Mandaluyong is not only child-friendly but excels in governance),” Tapales said.
Mayor Ben Abalos thanked the CWC and acknowledged the unity of Mandaleños in achieving this milestone. He also expressed gratitude to city officials, parents, children’s representatives, and volunteers for their support in protecting children’s rights.
Child-Friendly city
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos said that as a child-friendly city, the local government continues to run programs to protect the rights of its youth.
The programs include BALISA (Bantayan at Alamin ang Laman ng Isip at Saloobing may Alinlangan), which focuses on children's mental health and training for selected city staff and child representatives on the MAKABATA Helpline 1383.
On Dec. 2, a memorandum of understanding for the program was signed between Mandaluyong and the CWC.
Vice Mayor Abalos also called on village chairmen to strengthen their Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children (BCPC) with support from LCPC Children Representatives.
She emphasized the need to create laws to stop violations of children’s rights, including the growing problem of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) perpetrated through social media.
