Fair weather expected in most parts of the Philippines
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Dec. 5 said fair weather can be expected in most parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
In a live weather update on Thursday morning, PAGASA Weather Specialist Rhea Torres said only Batanes is expected to experience cloudy skies with light rains, driven by the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”
Meanwhile, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, and the rest of Cagayan Valley may see cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms due to the shear line—a weather system formed by the interaction of warm air from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies) and cold air from the amihan, which results in rainfall.
PAGASA cautioned against flash floods or landslides in areas affected by the shear line due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Torres said generally fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies may prevail over the rest of the country. However, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms could still occur.
The public is advised to remain vigilant for possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
